Shona Reid is the Guardian for Children and Young People

Her job is to stand up for you while you’re in care or youth detention.

Shona is not part of any government department. She provides feedback to departments and parliament on how they can improve the lives of children and young people in care and youth detention.

Shona has an awesome team of Advocates who talk to children and young people about how their lives are going and what can be done to make things better.

Children and young people can call us (1800 275 664) if they’re feeling worried and need our help to get change and be heard.

We also visit them while they’re in care or youth detention centre to ask how they’re going and if we can help.

More about Shona

I have the right to be safe and well cared for.

As a child and young person in care, you have special rights. These are rules that should be followed so you can grow up happy, healthy and achieving your dreams.

If you feel that your rights are not being met, and you are not being listened to, we can help.
