The rights of children in care and youth detention.

Rights are protections every child should have honoured so they are safe, healthy, treated fairly and able to thrive.

There is a Charter of Rights for out-of-home care, and a different Charter of Rights for youth detention.

They are both based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the UN Rules for Juvenile Justice.

These rights guide services, and governments to make decisions that are in children’s best interests, so they are safe, healthy and can thrive.
